BACKGROUND – In May 2008, Thakur succeeded his father when he was elected as a Member of Parliament of India’s 14th Lok Sabha. He was later appointed as the President of the All India Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha. He is also a cricket player nd is known to have played the Ranjhi Trophy against Jammu & Kashmir in 2000; he was also the President of the HPCA. He has played one match in first class cricket to fulfill the BCCI criteria for becoming a selector at the state level.
