The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) directed, Luxury Hotel Chain ITC Maurya, to pay Rs. 2 Crore as compensation to a woman observing that she lost her expected assignments and suffered a huge loss which completely changed her lifestyle and shattered her dream to become a model.
A Bench of President RK Agrawal and Member Dr S.M Kantikar awarded compensation after noting that women are no doubt cautious about their hair, spend a handsome amount on keeping them in good condition, and are emotionally attached to them.
The Complainant, a 42-year-old woman, had gone to the hotel’s salon on April 2018, and asked the hairdresser for flicks in front and a 4-inch trim from the bottom, which he didn’t follow and chopped her long hair. As the woman was asked to remove her specs and bow down, she was not able see herself clearly in the mirror.
The salon, in an apology, did not charge her for the service but also didn’t take any action against the Hairdresser. Apart from this the ITC Maurya is also guilty of medical negligence in hair treatment, the commission stated, adding that the Complainant’s scalp was burnt and there is still allergy and itching due to the fault of the staff.
Considering the woman’s mental trauma and loss of her job as Senior Management Professional, the Court has directed ITC Maurya to pay Rs. 2 Crore compensation to the woman.
