The state government was admonished by the Uttarakhand High Court for the way it was planning to cope with the third wave of covid-19 and was told to prepare for the Delta Plus variant.
Hearing a PIL related to the Uttarakhand government’s handling of covid-19, the Division Bench led by Chief Justice RS Chauhan and Justice Alok Kumar stated that, “The Delta variant took a month to spread across the country; the Delta Plus variant will take no more than three months. What are you doing to help us save our kids? You’re probably expecting that the Delta Plus variant will state that it will wait for the government to prepare before attacking.”
The Court went on to say that while working on a war footing is necessary during the pandemic, bureaucratic roadblocks are being built to slow down the process.
The bench stated, “Stop deceiving us; we know the truth. Don’t tell the Chief Justice that Uttarakhand has Ram Rajya and that we live in paradise.”
It also called the government’s claim of having enough ambulances into question.
The Court set the next hearing for July 7, after which the Chief Secretary and the Health Secretary must file an affidavit with specifics.
