US Social Media giant Twitter has recently said that they are concerned for its employees in India and by a potential threat to freedom of speech for its users after Delhi Police apparently visited its offices.
Twitter has expressed its concern after Delhi Police visited company’s Delhi and Gurgaon offices to serve a notice asking the top executives of the firm to join the probe into a complaint by the Congress against allegations made by BJP leaders of a “Toolkit” plot to harm Prime Minister and the Government.
Police sought information from Twitter for labeling tweets against Congress as Manipulated Media.
While the tweets still continue carry the label of Manipulated media, the IT Ministry has asked the platform to drop the label to ensure that the platform is unbiased and neutral in nature.
As per the policies of Twitter, the label was added after recognizing the tweets to be different from the facts. But the IT Ministry is still of opinion to remove such labels and come clear on who were the fact checkers behind the process.
Although Twitter has been battling with Indian Government since February, the platform urged the Ministry to give them 3 months to comply with the new regulations.
