B S Jakhar, Sushil Kumar’s lawyer when asked about the stand that they have taken in the court, stated that the wrestler claims innocence and says that he had just gone to the site to intervene and resolve the quarrel which had erupted between the two groups at the stadium.
The lawyer further contended that the police upon receiving a PCR call informing them that there were two persons firing gunshots, upon arriving the site of the incident (Chhatrasal Stadium), three people were found injured.
He further mentions, that the boys, while giving their statement to the Police had not mentioned that Sushil Pehalwan had hit them and at the hospital when the doctor had asked the injured again the boys again did not take the wrestler’s name.
When one of the boys( Sagar Dhankar) died, police added section 365 for kidnapping and section 302 for murder to the FIR stating that the wrestler had forced Sagar and his friends into a car at gunpoint in order to take them to Chhatrasal Stadium but there is no CCTV footage of the alleged kidnapping from the site that even shows the wrestler, the wrestler’s lawyer said.
When asked about why Sushil Kumar had been on the run and in hiding , the lawyer responded that the police had given notice (under section 160) to Sushil’s wife and not him. He even said that even for arresting big gangsters, a NBW (non-bailable warrant) has never been issued by the police in 10 days and neither a reward has ever been announced so promptly.
Hence, Sushil’s lawyer stated that there was a clear intention to frame the wrestler.
When further asked about why the police would want to frame the wrestler, Jakhar said that the trail is still pending in the Court and therefore he can’t talk much but urged the police to make public the alleged CCTV footage that they apparently claim to possess.
