The Supreme Court on Thursday 9th September, 2021 dismissed a plea seeking directions to fill vacant posts at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
The Bench headed by Justice L. Nageswara Rao cited that the former Supreme Court Arun Mishra has been appointed as the chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
During the concise hearing, the petitioner informed the Bench that the Chairperson and participants had been appointed and most effective posts are mendacity vacant.
Justice B.R Gavai quoted “In the view of subsequent events of appointment of chairman and members this petition has become infructuous.”
The petition was filed by Lawyer RadhaKant Tripathi seeking a direction to fill the vacancies in the National Human Rights Commission.
The post of National Human Rights Commission chairperson was vacant after former Chief Justice of India H.L. Dattu completed his tenure in December 2020.
