Supreme Court ordered that Kanumuri Raghurama Krishnam Raju, MP belonging to YSR Congress, be medically examined at Army Hospital, Secunderabad.
While directing the same, the Court did not grant bail to Raju. He was booked under the charges of Sedition by Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department on 14th May, 2021.
As per the order of the Apex Court, the period under examination would be treated as judicial custody. The Telangana High Court was directed to nominate a judicial officer to accompany Raju during examination. Raju’s medical examination is to be video graphed and the medical reports have to be submitted in a sealed cover to the Court.
The order was passed by a bench of Justices Vineet saran and BR Gavai with respect to the plea filed by Raju against the May 15th order of AP High Court denying him bail in the sedition case.
Appearing for Raju, Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi pleaded for an interim bail and treatment in AIIMS Delhi, he further stated that admitting him in AIIMS Mangalgiri would invite problems for Raju as he had filed a pea seeking cancellation of the bail of CM Jaganmohan Reddy and two of his MP are in the governing body of the hospital.
Justice Saran then said, “There is nothing political here. We will appoint a judicial officer in whose presence the exam can be conducted. State can file reply by Thursday and bail hearing can be on Friday.”
The matter pertaining to the bail would be heard on May 21.
