The Supreme Court directed the transfer of all FIRs against Times Now News Anchor Navika Kumar to the IFSO Unit of the Delhi Police following the telecast broadcasting Nupur Sharma’s remarks on Prophet Muhammed, where the FIR by the IFSO Unit shall be taken as the lead case.
The Court has directed that no coercive action is to be taken against Navika Kumar with regards to the FIR/s that might be registered in the future with respect to the same telecast.
Justices Krishna Murari and M.R Shah reserved orders in the matter on September 16th.
The bench relied on the order passed in the Nupur Sharma case.
Sharma had approached the Court against registration of multiple FIRs in the States of Maharashtra, West Bengal and J&K.
The Court granted Sharma an interim protection on August 8th.
Senior Advocate Neeraj Kishan Kaul, counsel for Kumar, relied on the Nupur Sharma orders, whereby the future and current FIRs over the telecast clubbed and transferred to the Delhi Police.
Whereas, the Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta, for the Union of India, attracted the bench’s attention to the order passed in the case of Arnab Goswami, also with regards to the multiple FIRs against him.
