A Public Interest Lawsuit has been filed in the Bombay High Court, seeking Contempt of Court Proceedings against Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Shiv Sena Member of Parliament Sanjay Raut, Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil, and Vivek Kadam, Publisher of Saamana (the Shiv Sena’s Marathi Newspaper).
According to the Petition filed by the Indian Bar Association, the Respondents who occupy ministerial posts are engaged in a campaign to destabilize the whole Judicial System just because Court verdicts do not suit them.
In turn, Raut allegedly uncovered a 2013 Offense in which he claimed Somaiya and his son stole cash obtained from individuals in their efforts to prevent the decommissioning of the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Vikrant.
Following this, a First Information Report was filed against Somaiya, and while the Sessions Court denied his anticipatory release, the High Court granted him temporary Anticipatory Relief.
Following the ruling, Raut allegedly gave interviews and made scandalous claims alleging that judges in courts, notably the Bombay High Court, are awarding relief to Bharatiya Janata Party members while refusing to provide relief to their party’s implicated Ministers.
The Petitioner said that Judges are under a lot of strain since every order they make is scrutinized and criticized by the opponents.
As a result, the group has Petitioned the High Court to take Suo Motu Cognizance of the Respondents’ Contempt.
