The process of designation emerged after a Patna High Court lawyer filed a plea in the Supreme Court of India seeking the issue of directions to the Patna High Court to designate eligible lawyers as the Senior Advocates.
The petitioner referred to the case of Indira Jaising v. Supreme Court, where the Apex Court laid appropriate guidelines for the designation process of the eligible lawyers as the Senior Advocates in any High Court.
Concerning the plea, Supreme Court refused to entertain it and directed the petitioner to approach the Patna High Court.
