Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh has reached Bombay High Court challenging the order which was issued by the one member High-Level Enquiry Committee headed by Justice KU Chandiwal, constituted by the State of Maharashtra.
The former Bombay High Court judge KU Chandiwal was appointed by the Maharashtra government to make a High- level judicial inquiry on State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
The State home minister is accused of corruption charges, the committee was said to submit the inquiry report within six months.
Earlier, Mr Deshmukh had filed a plea for revoking the FIR (First Information Report) which was filed against him but the High Court dismissed his plea.
While in this plea, the Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh has contended that the inquiry committee set up by the government stands adjudicated as nothing survives to be inquired into by the Committee.
The plea states that the committee had declined all the contentions which were made by the former police commissioner and directed the inquiry to continue, and also fixed the date August 6th, 2021 for the persons who were summoned will be directed to lead evidence and face cross-examination.
The plea also challenges the orders dated 30th July which was passed by the committee, further the plea sought directions to put a stay on any further proceedings by the committee until the final disposal of the present petition.
The petitioner has referred to the High Court’s order dated 22nd July 2021 for the present case where it was recapitulated that a cognizable offence has been made out, and pointed out that both High Court and Supreme Court have held that CBI had to necessarily investigate this matter.
Param Bir Singh was made to move out from the CPs office and was transferred to the Maharashtra Police’s Home Guards Department on March 18.
Singh wrote a letter to Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on March 20 mentioning serious allegations of corruption against the State Minister
