The Supreme Court directed the Secretary of the Kasargod District Legal Authority, Kerela, to visit various medical and healthcare facilities such as general hospitals, community healthcare centres, etc. and submit a report on the treatment of the Endosulfan victims.
A bench comprising Justices DY Chandrachud and AS Bopanna noted that the report ought to cover the status of the existing healthcare facilities providing palliative care and physiotherapy.
The bench was hearing a contempt plea preferred by victims of Endosulfan alleging failure on the part of State of Kerala to disburse Rs. 5 lakhs in compensation.
The State Government has filed a compliance affidavit indicating the progress in compensation, medical facilities, and palliative care for the victims.
There is a serious lack of infrastructure for the proper treatment of the Endosulfan victims. The requirement of a commission to visit concerned facilities was voiced in court.
