Justice Rajesh Bindal, the Acting Chief Justice (ACJ) of the Calcutta High Court, took the oath as Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court.

The Oath ceremony took place in Raj Bhawan, where Governor Anandi Ben Patel administered the oath to the new Chief Justice.

During the tenure as an ACJ, Justice Bindal was criticized by a colleague over poor Roster Management and alleged violations of the Appellate Side Rules.

In addition, the Chairman of the West Bengal Bar Council had written to the Chief Justice of India, urging that Justice Bindal be removed as ACJ, noting his allegedly partial, unfair, and prejudiced approach.

The move, however, was condemned by Four Elected Members of the Bar Council, who said that the Chairman acted on his own accord and that his opinions did not reflect the sentiments of the majority of the Bar.

Justice Bindal was born in Haryana on April 16, 1961, and completed his LL.B from Kurukshetra University in 1985. He started practising in the Punjab and Haryana High Court the same year and was appointed as a judge of the same Court on March 22, 2006.

Justice Bindal was then transferred to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, and then to the Calcutta High Court, where the judge served as acting Chief Justice before transfer to Allahabad.

The Appointment of Justice Rajesh Bindal as Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court notified was by the Central Government.
