A Jharkhand Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) highlighted the threat which is faced by Judges while discharging their duties.
The same draw the attention of the Supreme Court and asked to take Suo Motu Cognisance in this case.
The State Government asked the Court to provide security to all the judges from High Courts as well as District Court and it also asked to provide an ASJ a bodyguard.
The Supreme Court who is examining this issue, had asked for the suggestion of the Centre as well as State Governments on this issue.
The state Government stated, “It is committed to provide the necessary security to members of the judiciary so that they may function independently without the fear of intimidation. The State is dutybound to protect and provide for security and safety of domiciles of the state and also to members of the judiciary as per threat perception.”
The State Government gave all the details of the steps take in last three years to provides security to the Judges.
The State Government further observed that it has taken all the necessary steps like, raising the boundary wall, installation of concertina wire, security of lock-ups and construction of guard room, watch towers and sentry posts in various courts to ensure the safety.
