Nimaben Acharya, the Gujarat Assembly Speaker, adjourned the Proceedings of the House during Question Hour as ruckus was created by the Opposition demanding the Resignation of Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi; over the issue of huge recovery of intoxicants worth crores in Gujarat in last 2 years.
The discussion over a question raised by Congress MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) Bhaga Barad from Talala Constituency was going on.
Barad sought details of intoxicants recovered from Gir Somnath and Rajkot districts in the last two years. He also sought the details of the persons arrested in those cases.
Sanghavi replied that the State Police was active in the implementation of the Prohibition Policy.
He stated that as many as 8,986 First Information Reports were registered in 2021 against the perpetrators by the Police in both districts.
However, Deputy Leader of Congress Shailesh Parmar alleged that liquor worth Rs 215 Crore and Drugs worth Rs 370 crore were seized by the State in the last 2 years, and questioned as to how so much liquor was entering the State.
Parmar further raised the issue of recovery of a huge consignment of Drugs (Heroin) worth Rs 21,000 crore at Mundra Port in Kutch in September 2021.
Thereafter, CJ Chavda, the Chief Whip of Congress and other Congress MLAs demanded the resignation of Sanghavi.
Due to prolonged ruckus by the Opposition, the House was adjourned by the Speaker for the rest of the Question Hour.
