The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) will move the Supreme Court for directing the Haryana government to release the National Capital’s legitimate share of water.
According to Raghav Chadha, the vice-chairman of DJB Delhi has been receiving 479 MGD against 609 MGD from Haryana. Besides, Delhi draws 90 MGD groundwater and receives 250 MGD from the Upper Ganga Canal.

He alleges Haryana for withholding 120 million gallons of water a day which is to be used by Delhi and also states that the raw water which is discharged in the Yamuna by the neighbouring State is at an all-time low.
“Delhi does not have a source of water of its own. It gets water from neighbouring States under legally binding treaties. Some unprecedented incidents have happened this year. Haryana has withheld Delhi’s share of water,” he further added.
Raghav Chadha also stated that Delhi is not begging Haryana to give water. It is only demanding that the MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) which is binding is getting infringed, which shall not happen and hence, making it clear that the matter will go to the Apex Court if the neighbouring States fail to work according to the MoUs signed.
