Due to the high number of cases pending before Delhi’s District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions, the registrars were directed by the Delhi High Court to start listing final matters for hearing at 2:30 PM daily.

Justice Prathiba M. Singh further directed that chronological order should be followed starting from the oldest cases, and a cause list should be published in advance so that lawyers and litigants are kept up-to-date.

There is a report in which it is revealed that 9,181 cases were pending before the capital’s consumer forum, some of which date back to 2003.

The only district lacking a district forum is Shahdara, so directing the Registrar General of the Delhi High Court to hold a meeting to consider the creation of a district consumer forum and providing infrastructure in the district for it, as well as modalities for the creation of mediation cells, will also be considered.

Members of each of the district consumer forums’ presidents, the registrar of the Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, and the Secretary of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution of the Delhi government, among others, will be attending the meeting.

On November 22, the conclusion or the minutes of the meetings were directed to be placed before the Court.
