The newly appointed Chief Justice Rajesh Bindal of the Allahabad High Court addressed the court for the first time on the 8th of November 2021 at the Lucknow Bench in a “Full Court Welcome Reference.’
CJ Rajesh Bindal expressed his concern over the unresolved cases of the Allahabad High Court and stated that “The Bar and the Bench have to work together, they are two wheels of the same chariot. We will work together and we will be able to serve the litigants in society.”
CJ Bindal was appointed at the suggestion of the Supreme Court on the 26th of September 2021, and he later took the oath as the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court on the 11th of October 2021.
He also stated in his speech that “Another issue, which is a cause of concern for all of us is pendency of cases in this Court, which goes as old as 1974 before the Lucknow Bench. And we have been getting sort of comments from the Supreme Court also, especially the criminal appeals.”
The Apex Court also had registered a Suo Moto case for the pendency of unresolved cases and Criminal Appeals in the Allahabad High Court on the 28th of September 2021. It stated, “If an Appeal is pending at the High Court stage and the convict has undergone eight years of sentence exceptions apart in most cases Bail would be the rule. Despite that, the cases don’t come up for consideration. we are not clear how much time it takes for such Bail matters to be listed.”
