Munishwar Nath Bhandari, the Chief Justice (CJ) of the Madras High Court, has been chosen to lead the Appellate Tribunal under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators Act (SFEMA).
He is scheduled to retire from his position on September 12 of this year.
CJ Bhandari has been nominated to the SAFEMA Tribunal for a term of four years, according to a news release released this evening by the Department of Revenue, Union Minister of Finance.
He will receive a salary of ₹2,50,000 each month.
Justice M. Duraiswamy was named the acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court earlier this week by the Indian President.
With effect from September 13 and after CJ Bhandari’s retirement, Justice Duraiswamy, the Madras High Court’s senior-most judge, would assume the Chief Justice’s responsibilities.
