Although the CBI’s investigating officer had awarded him a clean chit in a preliminary investigation, the CBI filed a FIR against Deshmukh on Sunday in connection with an Extortion case.
According to a copy of the report and the FIR filed by the CBI, the former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was not granted a free pass in the preliminary investigation, as stated by Congress.
Ex Maharashtra Police Chief Param Bir Singh accused Deshmukh of instructing a police officer to collect around Rs 100 crore off Mumbai bars monthly.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi administration questioned the Central Probe Agency’s functioning and claimed that the actions against Anil Deshmukh were motivated by political vendetta.
The Bombay High Court ordered the CBI to conduct a preliminary investigation into the accusations made by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh and submit a report, according to NCP Chief Spokesperson Nawab Malik.
The CBI said in a statement that the FIR had been filed so that the investigation could continue.
Maharashtra Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant has urged a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into a leaked report, allegedly made by a CBI official, that ruled out former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh’s participation in the corruption and Extortion case.
The viral report shows that the agency’s Investigation Officer stated “No cognizable offence has been committed by Anil Deshmukh”.
“The High Court had only asked to conduct the preliminary probe, but CBI misguided the court over the probe and filed the FIR against Deshmukh. This major crime is done by the CBI, therefore Union minister home minister Amit Shah must take responsibility for the misuse of Central probe agency and should step down,” Sawant stated.
Deshmukh claimed that Singh concocted the claims against him after he was ousted from the office of Mumbai Police Commissioner, even though he had skipped ED summons at least five times until now.
