The Central Bureau of Investigation filed a charge sheet against the former Allahabad High Court Judge Justice Sri Narayan Shukla in the medical college Bribery case.
Justice Sri Narayan Shukla is Accused of taking illegal gratification in return for ordering in favour of Prasad Institute of Medical Science, Lucknow.
Through the order Narayan Shukla permitted the college to admit students for the academic year 2017-18 as against the order of the Medical Council of India and Supreme Court.
Besides him, a charge sheet against retired Judge of Orissa High Court Justice Quddusi and half a dozen more people is filed. All the Accused have been booked under Section 120B of the Indian Penal Code along with Sections 7, 8, 12, and 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
As per the requirement of Prevention of Corruption Act, the Central Bureau of Investigation sought the nod of the High Court to prosecute its judge. In 2019, CBI even conducted a raid at Justice Shukla’s premises.
A Three-Judge in-house committee constituted by CJI Misra returned its findings that “he had disgraced the values of Judicial life, acted in a manner unbecoming of a Judge, lowered the majesty, dignity and credibility of his office” After which, on February 02, CJI had written to the President’s Secretariat, requesting them to initiate removal proceedings against the Judge.
Later, in June 2019, CJI Ranjan Gogoi wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about initiating an impeachment motion in the Parliament for the removal of Justice Shukla.
