The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an affidavit in Dominican High Court stating that according to the Code of Criminal Procedure, the court hearing cannot proceed in absence of Mehul Choksi.
The CBI filed an affidavit upholding the Indian laws claiming his Indian citizenship who is making a case to secure his deportation.
CBI also stated that he is just “misleading the courts by stating lies”. CBI affidavit apprised the Dominican court on his pending case in India.
The Indian diamantaire Mehul Choksi’s trial is to be held on 14 June for ‘illegal entry’ into Dominica from Antigua and Barbuda in Dominican High Court.
Choksi has already been denied a bail plea by the court.
The Dominican Court will resume its trial in Roseau Magistrate Court, where he filed a plea for abduction, torture and unlawful detention.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) are consorting for separate applications in Dominican Court.
The CBI is currently focusing on the matter of the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam case. While MEA will argue on Choksi’s citizenship matter.
CBI has also filed a supplementary charge sheet as per their gathered evidence for the PNB scam case for strengthening the Indian case.
