Bombay High Court criticised a lawyer for bringing up a woman’s personal life in court.
The lawyer was appearing for a woman who had filed a domestic violence case against her daughter.
The daughter was going to Australia for pursuing her education when she tried to drop the case against her in the District Courts.
A petition was filed to quash these proceedings with a hearing bench consisting of Justice S.S Shinde and Manish Pitale.
The Daughter’s advocate Kenny Thakkar argued the Domestic Violence Case to be dropped as, ‘she will be going to Australia to study further’. They also stated that there were no proofs relating to the allegations made against her.
The complainant’s advocate (the petitioner’s mother) responded to this by saying, “She has many boyfriends”.
Upon hearing this the Bench immediately stopped the argument. Justice Pitale added, “What is this argument? It is her (petitioner’s) life. What is this argument that she has many boyfriends? Argue on law point”
The Court also added that the mother should be happy that she (against whom the case was filed) is going far away.
The Bench reserved its judgement as said it will release its verdict on the 19th of April, 2021.
