On January 10, 2022, the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Central Government and the State Government of Uttar Pradesh were directed by the Allahabad High Court to file responses to the Petition which sought the removal of 29 individuals and corporate groups serving as life members in the UP Cricket Association.
The Case was heard by the Division Bench comprising of Justices Manoj Kumar Gupta and Yogendra Kumar Srivastava. The Writ Petition was filed by Manoj Kumar Pandit.
The 29 individuals and corporate groups were issued Notices by the Court, which sought their responses by the next Court Hearing scheduled to be held on February 3, 2022.
The Petitioners, who are the members of the Governing body of UPCA claimed that 24 individuals and 5 corporate members had been inducted as life members Illegally. The due procedures recommended by the Lodha Committee and the Supreme Court Judgment of 2018 had not been followed.
The Petitioners also stated that after the 2018 Supreme Court Judgment, few members of the Governing Body (Apex Council) had renounced their office after being disqualified for serving UPCA for more than nine years. These disqualified members had been made the Board of Directors through backdoors as they could not qualify as members of Apex Council because of rendering service for more than 9 years.
