Delhi High Court was hearing a plea alleging the Delhi Government’s decision on opening malls and markets, but not opening weekly markets.
While hearing the plea, the Court observed that it is expected from the street vendors to take precautionary measures and should get vaccinated to avoid the third wave of COVID.
The plea was filed by Saptahik Patri Bazar Association. A single bench of Justice Rekha Palli has issued a notice on the plea and sought a response from the Delhi Government.
The Court also presumed that the Delhi Disaster Management Authority will take the aforementioned issue into due consideration and will show its right perspective.
Further, the Court stated that it’s not asking the government to give allowance for operating weekly markets, rather it wants that the government should put conditions to avoid crowding in the market.
Advocate Rajat Wadhwa, while representing the petitioner association stated the concern of poor vendors who are badly affected due to the said action and also stated that opening one weekly market in a municipal zone will attract a crowd.
Whereas, Advocate Satyakam representing the Delhi Government gave assurance that the concerned authorities will consider the issue and will inform the Court after deciding.
