The Bombay High Court has censured the collector’s order, who allowed a gathering of around 200 people for an event amid the COVID-19 crisis.
The event was hosted by the Serva Sewa Sangh.
After the Nagpur Bench allowed the collector to review his order, he chose to revise the permit and allow 50 people to assemble.
However, the Bench of Justices SB Shukre and AG Gharote observed that there was no change in the collector’s attitude.
The Court said, “We would only like to say that for his own good, he exercises more care and caution in future.”
The Court noted that they were supposing a reply from the collector speculating upon his earlier mistake.
The order stated:
“We would have appreciated that the reply filed by the Collector, reflected upon the realisation of the mistake committed by him … This gives an indication that there is no realisation of mistake on the part of the Collector, rather the Collector has fondness for functioning with the same attitude as he has displayed earlier.”
The Court has refused to intervene further and dismissed the petition challenging the gathering.
The Court has directed the collector to ensure that not more than 50 people attend the event.
To avoid complications, the Court has directed him to obtain a list of attendees from the Trust early.
